What is Generational Toxicity? Safe Detox Methods: This topic is profound because many people are stuck in a state of illness, and they cannot figure out why. They eat well, exercise, check all the boxes, yet somehow they cannot shake the excess weight. They continue to struggle with lethargy, exhaustion, brain fog, and other symptoms. Our subject today is generational toxicity, more specifically how we inherit toxicity through four generations of our ancestry. You may be doing it all right, but unknowingly are harboring the toxicity from the ages before you.
What is Generational Toxicity? Safe Detox Methods
It’s not hard to imagine conceptually, because we know that things naturally tend to build upon themselves. If you practice the piano every day, you will become better at the piano. That accumulation applied to negative habits as well, and no doubt toxins in the human body. Within our lifetime, repeated chemical and toxin exposure get stored away in our tissues and organs. We may not show symptoms until we tip the scale, and our cup starts to overflow. We’re often confused about how one small event could set off a significant autoimmune reaction. The reality is that we’ve been slowly building up to this moment for years. We’re going to explore the science, the typical toxic chemicals to look out for, as well as ways to detox safely.
Although this topic can be scary, it is also incredibly inspirational. You can breath knowing it’s not necessarily your fault, and that there are tools out there to reclaim your health!
Generational Toxicity: It Started Long Before You
Since a woman is born with all her reproductive eggs, you were actually in your grandmother’s womb. Sit with that for a moment: your physical development started two generations ago, in the body of your grandmother. The generations before you shape your DNA. Industrialization over the past several decades has exposed us to many toxins.
During pregnancy, a woman naturally loses bone density, which releases minerals and whatever else is stored in the bones into the blood, making its way to the placenta. The problem here is that our bones store heavy metals, notably lead, to keep them away from our nervous system. Therefore, you want to stick with organic pasture-raised bones when making bone broth. Bones are incredible storage devices for toxicity. So a generation of women raised around lead-based paint have been storing toxins in their bones, only to pass them (often unknowingly) down onto their children. The firstborn child gets the biggest whack of these toxins.
My children were raised in the “perfect” conditions: breastfed, organic food, no medications, no drugs, no artificial toxin exposure whatsoever. However, they both (but especially our firstborn) struggled with health problems from the time they were born. They were constipated even while breastfed, before ever consuming solids. We couldn’t figure it out, and finally, heavy metal testing showed that indeed they had inherited my wife’s toxicity. We needed to find a safe detox method.
The Science Backs It Up
One fascinating study from Duke University found that the offspring of the rat exposed to the toxins were automatically becoming obese, even without any new exposure to toxins. The toxin exposure of the mother had predestined her litter to become overweight.
Think about what this means for humanity, who are in an ever-increasing toxic world. We have toxins in our soaps and lotions to shampoos, air fresheners, and cleaning products to toxic food (herbicides, pesticides) and all the artificial coloring, flavoring, and preservatives. Our bodies are accumulating junk over a lifetime, and then these toxins that we’ve stored away in our bones are being passed down to babies in utero. It’s turning on problematic genes that would otherwise be lying dormant and prompting problems and sensitivities. Our babies are being born with their toxic load already to the brim, and then the slightest trigger is setting off severe health problems.
Another study demonstrated that early life exposure causes a long-lasting impact on the gut microbiome. We’re only scratching the surface when it comes to the importance of the gut. We know a healthy gut is a critical player in warding off disease. It impacts everything from metabolism and hormones, to energy, and mood. People’s lead exposure during their formative years (particularly the most formative ones in utero) are triggering a generation of children struggling with obesity and other health issues, irrelevant of their diet.
Because of generational toxicity, we’re now facing this obesity crisis.
Another study in Scientific American demonstrated that women exposed to lead had newborns who scored lower on tests measuring reflexes and other skills tied to brain development.
Another study looked at mercury levels in the mother’s body, compared with cord blood, breast milk, the meconium (what surrounds the baby at birth), and the infant’s hair. Once again, a direct correlation was found between the amount of mercury in mom’s fillings and all the tissues in utero. A separate study demonstrated the connection between mercury toxicity and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Because of our accumulated toxicity, our children are not given an optimal chance at thriving in life.
But it doesn’t stop at physical health issues. Metal toxicity is also linked to mood disorders and even violent crime. A study explored the increase of led in tap water (through lead pipes) and the subsequent rise in homicide rates.

Safe Detox: Get Tested
To start, check out ToxicityScore.com, for a free assessment. This test is designed to estimate your cellular toxicity burden. It can help determine if toxins may be the cause of your health struggles. From there, I suggest working with a qualified practitioner who will test your blood for heavy metals only after challenging them out of your tissues. You see, a simple blood test won’t reveal most toxins, and may give a false negative.
Safe Detox:
Detoxing doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does have to be done properly in order to be effective. You can learn more about how to detox effectively at DrPompa.com, but some of my top supplement recommendations to help detox the body are:
- CytoDetox can be taken daily to deeply detoxify the cell from the inside out
- Bind provides a specialized form of activated charcoal and powerful humates (humic and fulvic acids) along with key botanicals that effectively bind toxins and prevent retoxification. BIND serves as a master drainage formula that attracts toxins, binds them so they can’t be reabsorbed, and escorts them out of the body.
- Vista improves membrane fluidity and the cells can receive more oxygen and nutrients to make ATP energy. Supports the cell membrane and the cells can detoxify their metabolic and acquired toxins.
- Restore can be taken daily to heal your guts tight junctions and detoxify from the harmful herbicide glyphosate
- Pureform contains anti-inflammatory oils to promote gut health and boosts your immune health

The danger for generational toxicity sufferers is that their detox ability has also likely shut down. You can overwhelm the body by taking these products before making sure that detoxing (methylation, etc.) is working properly. Other products should be taken first. This is the problem with generalized recommendations. Some people are way too impaired to overload the body with all these products at the same time.
What causes dizziness, especially rolling over in bed?
There are many causes – hard to answer in a general way. Blood sugar balancing could be to blame.
