Holiday Biohacking to Prevent
(or Reverse) Weight Gain: Part 1
Holiday Biohacking: It’s that time of year people seem to fear when it comes to maintaining their health and fitness goals: the holidays. I’m here today to share with you my #1 bio-hack when it comes to navigating this holiday season, which will not only prevent you from putting on weight… but might even help you lose weight. And no, it has nothing to do with deprivation. These tools will not only help you maintain a healthy weight, but they will also positively influence your sleeping habits, your energy, your mood, and as a result- even your relationships!
Most people seem to think that they gain weight during the holidays because of their increased sugar (carbohydrate) intake, and although that may play a small role, there is actually a bigger culprit. Despite being full of sugar, the more detrimental aspect of these holiday foods is actually their toxic load.
Holiday Biohacking: Toxins in Pre-Made Desserts
The problem is those foods that you’re going to be eating are loaded with toxins.
There is a laundry list of harmful chemicals found in these packaged goods, cakes, cookies, pies… even the home-made ones baked with conventional flours and other ingredients, they include:
- Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
- Artificial Food Coloring
- Sodium Nitrite
- Guar Gum
- High-Fructose Corn Syrup
- Artificial Sweeteners
- Sodium Benzoate
Today we are going to focus on a particularly toxic chemical that has made its way into the majority of our foods (even some labeled organic), and its name is glyphosate.
The Problem: Glyphosate
Glyphosate is a chemical found in a herbicide called Roundup, produced by Monsanto. This product is being used around the globe to grow our food, and particularly to grow grains. It has begun to permeate even organic soils and is so rampant that it is being found in our water supply and even in breast milk.
Glyphosate is especially high in grain production, because spraying Roundup on the plants just prior to harvesting increases the yield, and facilitates processing. What this means for us is anything made with products that have been grown or processed using Roundup (yes, even your grandma’s homemade oatmeal cookies), is a hit of glyphosate and all its associated problems.
These problems are vast, but a major one is the fact that glyphosate increases the absorption of all other neurotoxic chemicals. As a result of this increased toxic load, the cell functions improperly, which means sick hormones, mood swings, poor sleep, weight gain, and disease.
A healthy body develops metabolic flexibility.
With metabolic flexibility, the body can properly assimilate high carbohydrate foods for energy, without weight gain, brain fog, and mood swings. When the cell is malfunctioning due to a toxic load, it loses its ability to communicate with hormones, and this breakdown of communication means the body cannot properly process what you feed it. When we look at type 2 diabetes, the problem isn’t that the body doesn’t produce insulin, it’s that the cell receptors cannot register that it’s there. Instead of removing the sugar (which triggers the need for insulin), the more important factor is healing the cell, so that the line of communication between hormones and the body becomes clear. That is called hormone sensitivity, and that ensures your body is working the way that it is meant to.
What a relief to know that in fact, it’s not your fault.
Your hormones are reacting to assault, and that is why today’s holiday biohack has nothing to do with deprivation or willpower. This holiday biohacking solution is supporting the cell from the ground up and helping rid it of glyphosate (and all those other nasty chemicals!) so that it can function properly, restore your natural energy, your healthy weight, and your mood.
Holiday Biohacking Solution: Cellular Detox
You might have thought I would tell you the answer was to avoid the chemical(s) itself, but I’m a realist. Don’t get me wrong, your regular diet should definitely avoid such toxins, but my purpose isn’t to ruin your holidays; I want to give you tools on how to navigate them realistically and optimize your health along the way. The solution is removing the toxins from the cells, that’s the process I call cellular detox. As a result, your body will work the way it was designed to, which means better sleep, less unwanted body fat, and stable moods.
If you’re very sick (autoimmune, etc.), I definitely recommend working with a proper health coach. This is why I train doctors all around the world in this multifaceted therapeutic approach to healing so that even very sick people can heal. But today, we’re here to focus on ways you can incorporate a simplified cellular detox strategy to lessen the blow of holiday toxicity and weight gain. I want to focus on what basically everybody can do.

Holiday Biohacking: Detox the Cell
Up-regulating certain cell functions is a part of my 5r method to holiday biohacking.

Without getting too deep into it (you can read more on DrPompa.com), you just have to understand that our cells are designed to self-detoxify. Even if it doesn’t come in contact with added toxins, the cell produces waste as a result of creating energy (much like a chimney), which it then has to clean up. The problems start when they are hit with too many toxins at once (like during the holidays), and so their function begins to slow. As the detoxification slows, the problems begin to build up, and up, and up.
Number two is we need a binder or a chelator that’s able to get into the cell membranes. Remember that that’s where the hormone-disrupting toxins are located. We need a binder that effectively enters the cell and then holds onto them until they leave the body. This is a very important part of true cellular detox. Although there are many binders out there, things like cilantro are weak binders, and all they end up doing really is picking up toxins and dropping them again. This can actually cause even more harm by essentially swirling them around and triggering a Herxheimer reaction (feeling even sicker).
After binding to the toxins, the next step in total elimination is processing in the liver. The problem here is that many of the toxins end up being bound up in the liver bile because bile is a fatty compound that we use to digest fat. Although a healthy body that isn’t being exposed to too many toxins at once has enough time to clear them out, most people are overburdening their already weak system. It’s called hepatic biliary sludge: hepatic meaning liver, biliary meaning bile, sludge meaning toxic waste.
Since bile is used to digest fat and is recycled by the body, what happens when too many toxins build up in the bile is that the bile is reintroduced into the body before it has time to properly clear out said toxins, and you actually reintroduce these toxins into your body. This is called autointoxication: instead of detoxifying, you’re re-toxifying.
The Holiday Biohacking Products
These three processes happen thanks to three incredible products. The first thing we want to do is increase the cells natural ability to undergo this natural mechanism, and we do so with a product called GCEL. It raises the intracellular glutathione, which is the main function in which the cell that gets rid of toxins, among other benefits.
Second and third we have BIND and CytoDetox. These two products enter the cell membrane and act as a vehicle to getting rid of the toxins as we up-regulate cell function, and prevent reabsorption.
I believe in using the wisdom of nature to heal, and nature works in cycles. Detoxification is no different! To start off, you could use all three products for 2-4 weeks (consistently throughout the holiday period), but after that, I recommend cycling them weekly. Two options that work well for most people is either three days on, four days off OR seven days on, seven days off. Find what works for you!
This is average recommended dosing, you will have to tailor it to your own body and toxic load. All of these products are taken in the on cycle.
- For those of you who are more sensitive, perhaps smaller, one pill twice a day with or without food.
- The average dose is two pills twice a day.
- Those of you who are bigger or can handle more, you can do three pills twice a day. That’s what I do.
- It’s a liquid from a dropper and it’s measured 0.25, 0.5, and 1 milliliter.
- You’ll take this first thing in the morning, and you can also take it at night.
- Very small people or sensitive people can take 0.25 to 0.5 milliliters
- The standard dose would be one milliliter two times a day, which is a full dropper twice a day, morning and night.
- Avoid taking around food, and definitely away from any medications (it will prevent the absorption).
- Ideally take BIND right before bed, at least an hour or two after eating dinner.
- BIND can be used when you’re exposed to toxins (in food, or alcohol), you can take it just prior to drinking or eating something with a heavier toxin load. Try to avoid taking it with food as a general rule, because it will prevent the absorption of certain key minerals and vitamins too.
